Welcome from our Captains

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself as Club Captain of Sleaford Golf Club, for the year 2018/2019.

My introduction cannot happen without firstly thanking our immediate past Captain Terry Marshall for the wonderful service he gave our club during his year in office, reinstating the club ball and introducing our first festival of golf which was huge success. I have a very hard act to follow.

I would also like to thank Terry for inviting me to be his Vice-Captain and for all the help, advice and direction during the year.

My second thanks goes to Mick Walton for agreeing to be my Vice-Captain, and I am looking forward to working with him this year.

I believe, that every successful Club Captain has to have the help and support of his peers and I am lucky in this respect to have such fine outstanding players in both the Gents A and B teams, as well as the Ladies’ section, who will be finely led by new captain Shirley Elliott. I look forward to working with you all in the year ahead.

We also have a strong Seniors’ Section at Sleaford and I will be hoping to involve their Captain, Graham Anderson in Club activities and equally helping him in any way I can with the business of the Seniors’ Section.

Whilst on the subject of the year ahead, it would be remiss of me not to mention the 2nd Open Golf Festival at the end of August, which was a resounding success last year. This consists of a week of Open Golf with competitions to suit all.  This is unique to the area and hopefully it will continue to be an annual event.

Obviously, to make this a success we need the participation of members, friends and as many visitors as we can encourage.  It is imperative that we give as much support as we can and that support has to start at home, so I ask you all to take part and let’s make it something that we, as members of this wonderful club, can be proud of.

Sponsorship allowing, I also aim to introduce an evening of floodlit golf. Another 1st for the club, and hope this can also be supported.

The motto of Sleaford Golf Club is “ A Pleasure to Play”,  – a motto taken from one of the hundreds of visitors we welcome here at Sleaford.  We are fortunate to have a strong, behind the scene team, that can pride itself in the job they do.

We are known for our wonderful greens and a course condition second to none, prepared and maintained by our hard working green keeping staff, which is ably led be Head Greenkeeper Ian Batty.

We can guarantee you a very warm welcome and the best of hospitality, whether this is in the Pro Shop, getting help and assistance from our Head PGA Professional Nigel Pearce, – or in the clubhouse being served with the finest of food and ale by Cris van den Enden and his very capable staff.

In addition to regular social events throughout the year such as the quizzes on a Friday night, we also now have the annual summer ball to look forward to, as well as the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Please come and join us, particularly in our open competitions and you can rest assured, you won’t be disappointed.

That just leaves me wishing you a wonderful year on the links.  Play well but more importantly, ‘enjoy’.

Best wishes,  Ian

As Lady Captain of Sleaford Golf Club for 2018 I am very proud and honoured to welcome members, guests and visitors to our Club and to the Ladies’ Section.

We welcome new ladies, both experienced and those new to golf.  We are very fortunate as members to be able to play such a wonderful course maintained to a very high standard by our greenkeeping staff.  The course is always in excellent condition.

We have a very full ladies diary.  As well as our Tuesday Ladies’ Day we also meet on Thursdays and at the weekend.  We have friendly mixed handicap matches with other local golf clubs, as well as joining the Seniors’ Section for mixed competitions throughout the year.  There are also mixed social matches both home and away in addition to competitions run throughout the year by the Club.

Our Clubhouse is a great place to meet up.  It has a warm and friendly atmosphere,  an ideal place to enjoy a drink or meal, with the added bonus of being able to look out over the 18th green on those beautiful summer evenings.  We have quizzes, social events, a Haggis Supper, a Summer Ball, Christmas and New Year functions and other events throughout the year.

I look forward to 2018 playing golf, meeting friends old and new and I look forward to seeing you on the course and in the clubhouse.  May I take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the coming golf season and welcoming you to Sleaford Golf Club.

Shirley Elliott
