Welcome from our Captains

Club Captain 2016/17 – Al Pearson

As Captain it is my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to Sleaford Golf Club.  The Club was founded in 1905 and over the years has developed into one of the finest golf courses in Lincolnshire.  Our free draining, inland links course offers members and visitors the opportunity to enjoy quality golf all year round, particularly on our excellent greens.

Sleaford Golf Club has a reputation for great hospitality and a friendly welcome to new members and visiting golfers alike.  We have many competitions throughout the year to suit all standards of golfer, some being open to visitors.  We play competitive League Golf in the South Lincolnshire Golf League, there are a number of exchange days away and a very healthy fixture list of friendly matches against other clubs.

I am lucky enough to have a great team around me who all strive to make this an excellent members club and a first class venue for visitors.  Our Club Manager Neil Porteus, PGA Professional, Nigel Pearce, the Head Green Keeper Ian Batty and the House Manager Cris van den Enden all work hard to make your golfing experience as enjoyable as possible.

The Ladies’ Captain is Margaret Walsh, the Seniors’ Captain is Clive Boyfield and the Junior Captain is Dan Gee.  Doug Coote and Neil Tunstall are running the A and B Teams respectively, and John Marriott is once again Captain of the C Team.  I wish them and my Vice Captain Terry Marshall a successful and very enjoyable year and I look forward to working and playing with them during my time in office.

My major fund raising focus for the year will be a significant project to enhance the quality of the Clubhouse.  There are a number of ideas that have been put forward and we are currently in the process of narrowing these down to enable us to deliver an affordable but notable improvement to our facilities.  In addition I will also be raising funds for a charity called “Project Linus“.   This is a dedicated group of local ladies who make patchwork quilts for sick children in hospitals throughout Lincolnshire and are always in need of the raw materials required to produce their colourful and comforting quilts.  During the year there will be a number of events taking place,  and of course should you hit your golf ball into the Captain’s Bunker to the right of the 18th green then kindly make a donation in the bottle on the bar, after you’ve finished playing.

I am fortunate enough to follow a long line of enthusiastic and well respected Captains who have constantly aimed to raise standards at the Club and improve the quality of the course. I will do my utmost to represent this great club in the manner it deserves.  I  wish you all an enjoyable and rewarding golfing year.
