Welcome from our Captains
CLUB CAPTAIN 2019/20- MICK WALTON
May I take this opportunity to introduce myself as Club Captain of Sleaford Golf Club, for the year 2019/2020.
My introduction cannot happen without firstly thanking our immediate past Captain Ian Addlesee for the wonderful service he gave our club during his year in office. If I can be half as good as him I will feel that I have done a very good job.
I would also like to thank Ian for inviting me to be his Vice-Captain and for all the help, advice and direction he has given to me during the year.
My second thanks goes to Jim Robertson for agreeing to be my Vice-Captain for the coming year and I am looking forward to working with him this year.
Since joining Sleaford some 26 years ago I have been a strong supporter of the Club events whilst also representing the Club for many years at B Team level. I wish both Matt Lawson & Neil Tunstall all the best of luck, as they once again embark on another South Lincs Golf League season as Scratch and Handicap League Captains. I would also wish good luck to Tracy Harrison & Ann Lyon as they look after the Ladies League Team, who I’ve no doubt will be brilliantly led by our new Lady Captain, Carol Brinkworth. I look forward to working with you all in the year ahead.
We are also very fortunate to have a very strong Seniors’ Section here at Sleaford and I know that they will be ably led by Bob Ewen as the Seniors Captain for this year. Without doubt they are a huge part in any Club and I’m sure they’ll make me feel welcome, as they do all new members, if I can find time to play a few games with them over this coming year.
Whilst on the subject of the year ahead, I hope to see many friends old and new competing in our 3rd Annual Open Golf Festival which takes place in late August. This event continues to go from strength to strength and will hopefully continue for many years to come.
Obviously, to make this a success we need the participation of members, friends and as many visitors as we can encourage. It is imperative that we give as much support as we can and that support has to start at home, so I ask you all to take part and let’s make it something that we, as members of this wonderful club, can be proud of.
The motto of Sleaford Golf Club is “ A Pleasure to Play”, – a motto taken from one of the hundreds of visitors we welcome here at Sleaford. We are fortunate to have a strong, behind the scene team, that can pride itself in the job they do.
We are known for our wonderful greens and a course condition second to none, prepared and maintained by our hard working green keeping staff, which is ably led be Course Manager, Brian Sharp.
We can guarantee you a very warm welcome and the best of hospitality, whether this is in the Pro Shop, getting help and assistance from our Pro Shop Manager James Beinlich, – or in the clubhouse being served with the finest of food and ale by our very capable House staff. All of these are managed by our Director of Golf, Nigel Pearce who continues to push the Club forward.
In addition to regular social events throughout the year such as the quizzes on a Friday night, we also now have the annual summer ball to look forward to, as well as the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Please come and join us, particularly in our open competitions and you can rest assured, you won’t be disappointed.
That just leaves me wishing you a wonderful year on the links. Play well but more importantly, ‘enjoy’.
Best wishes, Mick
LADIES’ CAPTAIN 2019/20 – CAROL BRINKWORTH
Welcome to the Ladies Section of Sleaford Golf Club, I am honoured to be the Ladies Captain for 2019. I am relatively new to golf with only a few years experience but I am keen and enthusiastic to take the club forward, so to those old, young, experienced and novice a warm welcome to you.
Sleaford is an inland links-type course, kept in wonderful condition by our Greenkeeper Brian and his enthusiastic staff. All new members, including social members, are welcome regardless of your ability. Most of our competitions are held on Tuesdays with some on Sundays and we have a very busy calendar with various competitions and matches. We play in League matches, Inter Club Friendlies as well as mixed matches, both home and away, with other local clubs throughout the season.
Friendly roll – ups take place on Tuesday and Sunday mornings when there are no competitions. Coaching is available to individuals or as a group on Friday mornings, when the professional is available – and afterwards a welcome drink. The club house has a wonderful view of the 18th tee and a warm, relaxing atmosphere enhanced by the friendly staff.
My chosen Charity for 2019 is the African Wildlife Foundation and I hope you will all support me throughout the year.
Finally, please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.
Wishing you all a healthy, successful and enjoyable year of golf.
