Welcome from our Captains

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself as Club Captain of  Sleaford Golf Club , for the year 2017/18.

My introduction cannot happen without  firstly thanking our Immediate Past Captain, Al Pearson, for inviting me to be his Vice-Captain and secondly, for the wonderful service he gave to our Club during his year in office.  A year full of activity and innovation,  Al is going to be a very hard act to follow.

My second thanks are to Ian Addlesee, he has agreed to be my Vice-Captain and I am seriously looking forward to working with him this year.

I believe, that every successful Club Captain has to have the help and support of his peers and I am so lucky in this respect to have as Ladies’ Captain, Ann Lyon.   Ann and I are already planning for the year ahead and I know my role is going to be so much easier having her with me.

We also have a strong Seniors’ Section at Sleaford and I will be hoping to involve their Captain, Tony Gordon, in Club activities and equally helping him in any way I can with the business of the Seniors’ Section.

Whilst on the subject of the year ahead, it would be remiss of me not to mention our first innovation for 2017.  We are holding an Open Golf Festival at the end of August.  A week of Open Golf , with competitions to suit everyone.  It is quite unique in the area and hopefully it will become an annual event.

Obviously, to make this a success we need the participation of members, friends and as many visitors as we can encourage.  It is vital that we give as much support as we can and that support has to start at home, so I ask you all to take part and let’s make it something we, as members of this wonderful club, can be proud of.

The motto of Sleaford Golf Club is “ A Pleasure to Play”,  a motto I might add, taken from one of the hundreds of visitors we welcome here at Sleaford.  Our Club Manager, Neil Porteus prides himself in having a strong team and they in turn pride themselves in their individual roles.

We are known for wonderful greens and a course condition second to none, prepared by our hard working greenkeeping staff, ably led be Head Greenkeeper Ian Batty.

We can guarantee you a very warm welcome and the best of hospitality,  whether it’s in the Pro Shop, getting help or assistance from our Head PGA Professional Nigel Pearce, or likewise  in the clubhouse being served with the finest of food and ale by Cris van den Enden and his very able staff.

Please come and join us, particularly in our open competitions and you can rest assured, you won’t be disappointed.

That just leaves me wishing you a wonderful year on the links.  Play well but more importantly, enjoy’.

Best wishes,  Terry
